Hurley and Gola face Bournemouth showdown

WILLIAM Hurley blew the title race wide open by winning the penultimate leg of the Cuestars Under-21 Silver Tour.

The 14-year-old from Rayleigh moved to within three points of rankings leader Donnie Gola after defeating home player Christopher Woodward 2-1 at Chandlers Ford Snooker Club.

First-time finalist Woodward took the opening frame with a 48 break.

Gola (Kings Cross) finished third in his round-robin group and so missed out on a place in the knockout.

Third-placed Mason Wilson (Basingstoke), 12 points behind Gola, is not out of the running if the top two slip up in Bournemouth.

Gus Walker (Brighton) made the semi-finals for the first time since earning promotion from the Bronze Tour at the end of last season.

Hurley recorded the day’s highest break of 54 against Walker in the Pitman Training-sponsored event.

Caden Read (Chandler’s Ford) put together a personal best run of 49 in the round-robin group stages against Tom McEvoy (Warminster).

Greenbaize Snooker Club, Bournemouth, hosts the tenth and final leg on Sunday, April 28.
