Steve Allen claims first midweek over-55’s title

TOTTON Recreation Club stalwart Steve Allen won the inaugural midweek Cuestars Masters tournament at Salisbury Snooker Club.

Allen (pictured) did not drop a single frame all day and pocketed £60 prize money after beating Phil Morgan (Salisbury) in a one-frame final.

There was an excellent turnout of 12 for the 55s-and-over competition which is now planned to become a regular event.

Allen recorded 2-0 victories in the round-robin group stages over David Stewart (Odiham) and the home club’s Paul Burt and Richard Arnold.

He then overcame Stephen Hills (Northfleet) 2-0 in the last-four.

Morgan, who was beaten by Hills in the group stages, turned the tables with a 2-1 victory when the pair met again in the semi-finals.

Cuestars said the feedback from the experiment was positive. One or two more events will be added to this year’s calendar and a full tour is proposed for next season. As in Salisbury, the tournaments will be held on Wednesdays with an 11am start time.
