England U16 call-ups for five Cuestars players

CUESTARS players will fill half of the places in the England under-16 teams for the Home Internationals.

And Bradley Cowdroy (pictured) has been awarded the greatest prize of all.

The 16-year-old from Bournemouth said it was an “indescribable honour” to be made captain of the first team.

English Under-16 Championship runner-up Cowdroy will play alongside established Premier Junior Tour player Mickey Joyce.

Meanwhile, Oliver Sykes, Jamie Wilson and Aidan Murphy have been called up for the B side.

That means five of the ten places across both teams have been taken by Cuestars Gold Tour players. And that is extraordinary.

Cowdroy said: “It’s great that so many Cuestars players have been selected.

“It shows how much the standard of snooker is improving here in the south and how much we’re all pushing each other on.

“It’ll feel amazing to have the three-lions badge on my waistcoat for the first time.

“And to be made captain of my country is just an indescribable honour and something I’ll have with me for the rest of my life.

“I can’t wait.”

All five received emails from the English Association of Snooker & Billiards this week.

The 2018 Home Internationals take place at the Northern Snooker Centre, Leeds, from August 10-17.
