Eddie impressing in South Wilts League

THE youngest member of the Cuestars South Wilts Snooker League has yet to win a frame but he’s certainly earning some plaudits.

Eddie Mason (pictured) suffered his third straight 5-0 whitewash at Salisbury Snooker Club.

But the 14-year-old from Porton was complimented by his opponent, Stuart Dreyer.

“Eddie got a new cue just before the match and was clearly finding it difficult to get comfortable with it,” said Dreyer.

“He was struggling with his potting but to his credit, throughout the whole match, he kept his composure and conducted himself very well.”

Mason, whose highest break is 34, also competes on the Cuestars Under-21 Bronze Tour.

Meanwhile, league leader Jake Stewart knocked in a 64 break in a 5-0 victory over David Rice.

Stewart has a two-point advantage over Antony Foxcroft, who overcame Richard Arnold 4-1.

Arnold started well, won a scrappy first frame and was odds-on to double his advantage following a run of 35 in the next.

But Foxcroft got a snooker and potted pink and black to square the match.

“It was a game changer for me,” said Foxcroft. “I’m very happy with my third win as Richard is a tricky opponent.”

Liam Tinne fired in breaks of 41 in the first and last frames of his 4-1 success against Paul Burt.

Burt said: “Liam played maturely and, if he holds his nerve, could be a dark horse for the league.”

Third-placed Anthony Rice beat Lee Stagg 5-0 but reckoned his opponent “was unlucky to take nothing from the match” as four of the frames were decided on the colours.

And Graham Wallace came close to notching up his first frame of the season in a 5-0 defeat by Callum McDonald (Bishopdown).

Three frames went to the final pink.

Herman Desmier has withdrawn from the league and both of his results have been deleted.
