Magic weekend for Harry the Potter
HARRY Wyatt wrapped up a remarkable weekend with a second successive winner’s trophy on the Cuestars Under-21 Bronze Tour.
The nine-year-old from Ferndown described the two days as an “amazing high” and “awesome”.
It all began with a new high break of 35 in the Eastleigh & District Under-13 League the previous morning at Chandlers Ford SC.
In the afternoon, he won his first Open Series tournament.
Buoyed by that success, Wyatt travelled to Jesters Snooker Club, Swindon, and dropped only one frame all day in the third leg of the regional circuit.
And that was on a re-spotted black to Jake Sharp (Portsmouth) in the group stages.
When the pair met again in the final, Wyatt prevailed 2-0 to extend his rankings lead to 16 points over George Laxton (Portsmouth).
Paying tribute to Sharp, Wyatt said: “Jake was a tough opponent in the final.
“He beat me in the group stages on a re-spot so I knew he was playing well and I would need to up my game against him.
And reflecting on the two days, Wyatt added: “This weekend has been an amazing high for me.
“To beat my highest match break and win an adult Open Series event as well as my second Cuestars winner’s trophy of the season all in the space of two days is awesome.
“I have been practising hard and it’s paying off in matches.
“I know I can continue to improve if I put in the hours and work on all parts of my game.”
First-time finalist Sharp defeated his Waterlooville Sports Bar clubmate Tyler ‘Magic’ Mack 2-1 in the semis.
It was the furthest that Mack had ever progressed.
Five new high breaks were recorded by Bronze players in the Wiltshire event sponsored by trophy and sportswear supplier Don Rogers Sports Swindon and Jesters SC.
Mack posted a 23 in the group stages and then surpassed that with a 25 in the deciding frame of his 2-1 last-eight victory over leg-one winner Laxton.
Franklin Powell (Havant) cleared the last four colours for a 22 against home player Katie Griffin.
Freddie Turner (Andover) made a 32 in the group stages.
And Sharp, competing in only his fourth event, knocked in a 27 against Bradley Brewer (Salisbury).
Thomas Devine (Chandler’s Ford) progressed to the knockout for the first time. The ten-year-old won all four group games and then lost 2-0 to Daniel Walter (Portsmouth) in the last-eight.
Walter is ranked fourth following a 2-0 defeat by Wyatt.
It was the consistent Mayfair SC-based youngster’s second semi-final exit of the season.
And his brother Samuel progressed to the knockout for the first time in his tenth outing before going out 2-0 to Sharp.
