Riley Ellis: youngest Tuesday League champion
RILEY Ellis (pictured) is the youngest ever winner of the Tuesday Singles League at Chandlers Ford Snooker Club.
The 16-year-old beat Dan Sykes 2-1 from 1-0 down in the Series 28 play-off final.
Cuestars Gold Tour player Dan took the first frame by a margin. Silver Tour player Riley squared the match on the final black after his 21-year-old opponent had extracted the penalty points from the required snooker. But it was one-way traffic in the third frame as Dan needed snookers with two reds left.
Riley, who has recorded two new high breaks of 59 and 62 since the lockdown, pocketed £85 prize money before the long journey home to Clyffe Pypard, near Swindon.
A new ten-week round-robin league kicks off at 8pm next Tuesday. The top eight then play-off for the prize money in the 11th week.
Riley is another player who has taken his game to new heights since the clubs re-opened. And it’s just in time as a busy October looms.
All four Sundays next month are booked up for the teenager. He has Cuestars Silver Tour events at Waterlooville Sports Bar on October 4 and 25 and one at Top Spot Snooker Club on October 18 plus the last-16 knockout stage of the English Under-16 Championship at the new Crucible Sports and Social Club in Reading on October 11.
