William the Conqueror claims first title

WILLIAM Thomson (pictured) has ended his three-and-a-half-year wait for a first snooker title.

This extraordinarily talented young man lifted the 2020 Christmas Cup at Chandlers Ford Snooker Club.

William made his debut in the Eastleigh and District Under-13 League two months before his fifth birthday. Yes, he was aged four. At the age of six, he played in his first Cuestars Under-21 Bronze Tour event.

His first school holiday competition was the 2017 Ken Jones May Half-Term Cup.

On Christmas Eve, the eight-year-old veteran of these competitions claimed his first success.

Caden Read clinched the runner-up spot after finishing second to Asten Sahota in the final day’s round-robin. Asten took third place.

William made his highest competition break of 52 two months after turning eight and he is on Advanced Level 1 of the Cuestars Academy.

Earlier in the week, Christopher Woodward passed Level 3, Oliver Sykes recorded the highest snooker break of 72, O’Shay Scott chalked up a personal best 69 break in a practice match with Harry Wyatt and Riccardo Drayton contributed the highest billiards break of 22.

The event was reduced to four days as the club in now in a Tier 4 area. Next up, hopefully, is the February Half-Term Cup.
