95-year-old passes Bronze Level 7

IF YOU do nothing else on social media today, you must check out the video of Joe O’Connor – on his 95th birthday! – completing Bronze Level 7. It can be viewed on the Cuestars Academy Facebook page.

It just goes to prove that the app really is for everyone.

A snapshot of those delving into the hundreds of practice routines on offer for just £5 a year include a deaf player on the World Disability Billiards and Snooker circuit, a former World Seniors Champion, the women’s world number four and a current World Snooker Tour professional.

Daniel Harvest recently passed Bronze Level 6. The 50-year-old from Portchester, who is deaf, competes on the World Disability Billiards and Snooker circuit and attends his coaching sessions at Chandlers Ford Snooker Club with a British Sign Language interpreter.

Jersey-based Aaron Canavan waxed lyrical about the Academy on his Facebook page.

The 2018 World Seniors Champion wrote: “I’m extremely impressed with the amount of routines and levels from beginner to professional.

“If you’re struggling with direction and just aimlessly hitting balls around in practice then this will definitely help you focus your practice time and give you a goal when you practise, something that is vitally important if you want to improve your snooker.”

Aaron met Academy founder John Hunter on the World Seniors Tour.

Rebecca Kenna, ranked fourth on the World Women’s Snooker Tour, recently signed up and world number 34 Michael Holt, who is now a qualified WPBSA coach, is trying out the Academy over the Christmas break.
