Anniversary present for Jamie Hogg
A STEVENAGE teenage snooker prospect with two coaches has collected his first winner’s trophy on the Cuestars junior circuit.
Jamie Hogg fought back from 1-0 down to beat William Hurley 2-1 in a late-night final of the sixth leg of the Under-21 Silver Tour at Frames Sports Bar, Coulsdon.
The 14-year-old, who is based at Frank’s Pool Snooker Bar Hatfield, said: “It’s been a long day but you just have to carry on and do your best.”
It came just shy of 10pm on the eve of the anniversary of his Cuestars debut.
Hogg added: “I feel pretty good.
“I think I played all right throughout the day. No big breaks but it just shows you it’s not all about breaks at the end of the day, it’s about scrapping it out and winning the frames.”
Talking about his two coaches, Hogg explained that Don Watson looks after his technique and tactics while Andy Barrett helps with the mental aspect of the game.
Leg-five winner Hurley (Rayleigh), who has qualified for the European Under-16 Championship in Bosnia and Herzegovina in March, is now just one point behind rankings leader Mason Wilson (Basingstoke).
Caden Read (Chandler’s Ford) made the last-four for the first time, losing 2-1 to Hurley. Oliver Li (Brighton) went out by the same score to Hogg in the second semi.
Woking Snooker Centre hosts the seventh leg of ten on Sunday, February 18.
