Squires confirmed as Bronze champion

JACK Squires has secured the Cuestars Under-21 Bronze Tour rankings title.

The 18-year-old from Gosport built up an unassailable lead with one leg to spare after claiming his fifth winner’s trophy of the season.

Squires defeated Channel Islander Archie Greier 2-0 in the final of the ninth leg at Chandlers Ford Snooker Club.

But the day was not without drama. Squires qualified for the knockout via two-black ball shootouts against Charlie Ings (Salisbury) and Bradley Jones (Gosport) following a three-way tie in their round-robin group. And the first round of shootouts also resulted in a three-way tie!

Seth Charters (Harlow) earned himself promotion to next season’s Silver Tour by making a personal best 41 break against first-time quarter-finalist Ings.

Charters didn’t drop a frame all day until his 2-1 defeat by Greier in a high-quality semi-final encounter.

Navraj Landa (Southampton), another player heading for the Silver Tour, qualified for the last-eight for the first time.

Greenbaize Snooker Club, Bournemouth, hosts the tenth and final leg on Sunday, April 28.
