Bronze Tour player declines week in Spain to win summer competition

A NEW Cuestars member declined a week’s holiday in Spain to complete the Rotary Summer Cup at Chandlers Ford Snooker Club.

The decision to forgo seven days of sun, sea and sangria (alcohol free, obviously) in search of green-baize glory paid off for Ben Taylor-Jenkins (pictured).

The 13-year-old from Hedge End, who is due to make his debut on the Under-21 Bronze Tour at Salisbury Snooker Club on September 8, finished top of the overall rankings.

He played on every single one of the 28 days.

Another ever-present player was runner-up Navraj Landa, who finished last season ranked joint 12th on the Bronze Tour.

The much improved 12-year-old from Eastleigh made his first half-century earlier this month and recorded a total of 57 breaks of 20 or more during the Summer Cup.

A total of 14 new high breaks were recorded by Summer Cup players in all competitions since the first day, 15 levels of the Cuestars Academy were passed, William Thomson made the highest billiards break of 49, Oliver Sykes put together the highest snooker break of 114 and Asten Sahota took the high-break honours in the cricket with a 192.

The next school-holiday competition is the Autumn Half-Tern Cup from October 28 to November 1.
