First major trophy for Lynn

BRIGHTON lad Thomas Lynn has claimed his first trophy away from the junior section at the Castle Snooker Club.

The 13-year-old “smashed it” in the second leg of the Cuestars Under-21 Bronze Tour in south London.

Lynn, who had never qualified for a knockout in his previous two tournaments, beat debutant Sam Perkins 2-1 from 1-0 down in the final of the second leg at Frames Sports Bar, Coulsdon.

“Today I smashed it,” he said. “At the start, in the group stages, I played horrible. Then I just clicked and started playing much better.”

Talking about Perkins, he added: “It was really surprising because I played him in the group stages and he absolutely smashed me so it was quite a result.”

Lynn thanked his coach, John Gillard, and Kai Michael, who runs the junior section at the Castle Club in Brighton.

Perkins (New Milton) opened his Cuestars account with a personal best 31 break in his victory over leg-one winner Alex Scotney (Sutton) in his first match.

Scotney remains top of the rankings from Ben Taylor-Jenkins (Hedge End). First-time semi-finalist Lewis Thomson (Chandler’s Ford) is third.

Toby Walker (Hove) recorded his first Cuestars match win in his fourth tournament on the junior circuit.

Chandlers Ford Snooker Club hosts the third leg of ten on Sunday, November 3.
