Trip across the Mersey helps Wilson taste success in Chandler’s Ford
A DAY out on the north bank of the River Mersey helped Mason Wilson secure a second successive winner’s trophy on the Cuestars Under-21 Silver Tour.
The 19-year-old from Basingstoke takes over top spot in the rankings after beating first-time finalist Jack Squires 2-1 to clinch the third leg at Chandlers Ford Snooker Club.
Wilson, who also triumphed in Coulsdon last month, crafted a 44 break in the first frame and a 31 in the decider.
Squires (Gosport) is third in the rankings.
“It started off a bit scrappy but, as the day progressed, I got stronger and stronger,” said Wilson. “Jack, as always, is a tough player to beat.”
The previous day, Wilson was in action on the national under-21 circuit at the Mill Brow Snooker and Social Club, Widnes.
“It helped that I went to Widnes on the English Junior Tour yesterday,” he added. “I came back at about 10pm and thought, why not, might as well go down to Chandler’s Ford and play.
“If I hadn’t gone yesterday, I might not have had my A game today. Playing better players always sharpens your game up.”
Home player Christopher Woodward and Channel Islander Archie Greier made the last-four.
Wilson is sponsored by 1981 Events, Fineprint Basingstoke, Designs Unique UK and Flat Out Floors.
Salisbury Snooker Club hosts the fourth leg of ten on Sunday, December 1.
