Carl Davies has second day to remember

DORSET Open snooker champion Carl Davies has had another day to remember on the green baize.

The Bournemouth cueist, who had never won the county title before his success in January this year, has now claimed his first tournament win on the Cuestars circuit.

He didn’t drop a single frame out of 14 en route to collecting the £150 first prize in the third leg of the Seniors (40+) Tour at Greenbaize Snooker Club in his home town.

Davies, who made his Cuestars debut just over six years ago, wrapped things up with an impressive 2-0 victory over rankings leader Matt Ford (Bracknell) in the final.

Former Cuestars junior Gavin Rogers (Bournemouth) had an excellent run to the semi-finals where he lost a close match 2-1 to Ford.

Debutant Simon Jones (Bournemouth) reached the last-eight after a notable 2-0 last-16 victory over Jason Pusser (Bournemouth).

And Alex Kirchin (Leighton Buzzard), now joint second in the rankings, continued his run of consistent performances by making the last-four following a hard-fought 2-1 win over current rankings champion Paul Davis (Wareham).

A 65 by Garry Coulson (Southbourne) was the highest of the 24 breaks of 40 or more. The 36-strong field for the event sponsored by Martin Rabbets Snooker & Pool Services included 19 players from the Bournemouth area.

Tournament director Chris Wyatt said a massive thanks to club-owner Debra Ealy, Phil Butler and the rest of the Greenbaize team for looking after them brilliantly throughout the day.

Chandlers Ford Snooker Club hosts the fourth leg of nine on Sunday, December 15.
