Third success for Perkins

SAM Perkins continued his remarkable rookie season on the Cuestars Under-21 Bronze Tour with a late-night success in south London.

It was fast approaching 9.30pm when the 13-year-old from New Milton clawed back a 20-point deficit in the second frame to claim his third winner’s trophy of the campaign.

His 2-0 victory over 12-year-old Oliver Donnelly in the final of the seventh leg at Frames Sports Bar, Coulsdon, extended his lead at the top of the rankings.

Donnelly (Wandsworth) was also runner-up in the previous leg, to Archie Light (Lymington).

Reflecting on the day, Perkins said: “It was a bit on and off. In some of the games, I didn’t play so well. But in the semis I made a 30 break and it got better.”

And how about playing late in the evening?

“I don’t really mind it,” he added. “My legs are a bit tired but that’s all.”

There were two new high breaks. Thomas Lynn (Brighton) made a 29 in his group-stage match against Lewis Thomson (Chandler’s Ford) and Aariz Tariq (Welling) put together a 25 in his tiebreak against Rafferty Atkinson-Barrett (Brighton and Hove).

Milo Taylor (Somerton, Somerset) and Tariq both reached the semi-finals for the first time.

The event was sponsored by Frames Sports Bar (framessportsbar.com) and snookerdad Tan Jeraj.

Fareham Snooker Club hosts the eighth leg of ten on Sunday, March 2.
