First century for Eastleigh’s Tanner
EASTLEIGH teenager Ben Tanner (pictured) has joined the ton-up club after hours working in his garage.
The 17-year-old’s 110 against Lee Bell in a Cuestars Section tournament at The Academy, Eastleigh, shattered his previous best of 68.
Fourteen reds, 14 colours and the yellow took the break to 98.
“It was a straightforward screw back from the yellow,” he said. “I had such an adrenaline rush thinking I was going to get my first century.”
After potting green, brown and blue, he lost position.
Although Tanner has played the game for five years, it is only in the past 18 months he has taken it seriously.
He has been practising every day on a full-sized table in his garage in Boyatt Wood.
Tanner is third on the Cuestars South of England Gold Tour and turns out for Eastleigh Untouchables who are fourth in the Cuestars Junior Section Team Challenge rankings
The next target is to join the EASB Regional Junior Tour next season and try for promotion.
“My first ambition was to get a century before (club-mates) Liam Burnet, Lee Bell, Lee Roling and Dan Bentley,” he said. “And now I going to try and get on the Premier Tour.
