Young star rising from Phoenix league
A 14-year-old lad from Woodley has been crowned the youngest ever champion in the 25-year history of an adult snooker league.
Rising star Cameron Holt clinched Reading’s Phoenix Snooker League title by one point and he picked up two more trophies.
His personal best 47 break in the penultimate game against Howard Pyett was the highest handicapped break of the 48-week season.
And, after finishing tenth in his debut season in 2010/11, Holt was voted most improved player.
“It was a very close season and difficult to keep in the top three,” said the teenager, who competes with 15 other cueists on Monday nights.
“My game has improved, especially my safety play as all these games are against adults. I managed to get to the top spot four weeks from the end and stay there.”
The Year-10 Waingels College student added: “My goal is to retain the league next season, which will be very hard.”
Holt, whose practice base is High Wycombe’s Liberal Club, also competes on the Cuestars South of England Under-21 Silver Tour where he is currently ranked seventh.
