136 break for 16-year-old
TEENAGER Jordan Winbourne has posted the second highest snooker break in the 70-year history of the Southampton & District Social Clubs League.
The 16-year-old’s 136 total clearance was described as “poetry” by his opponent Derek Webb.
Winbourne’s Sarisbury Social Club A teammate Steve Gardiner admitted he had “goosebumps” as applause filled the room.
It came in the Super League leaders’ home match last week against Ashlett Club B.
Winbourne signalled his intent by constructing runs of 31 and 49 in the first frame before setting a new personal best in the second.
Webb, who had only five shots in the 2-0 defeat and potted just one ball, declared: “It was absolutely amazing.”
Gardiner said: “He showed a lot of composure. You wouldn’t know if he was on 26 or 126.
“When he finished, we raised the roof. I had goosebumps. That was equally as good as any of the centuries over the weekend (at the UK Championship).”
Full-time player Winbourne insists Monday night league snooker is “more relaxing” than the pressures of national competitions.
And after being told his break was just two points shy of Mike Finn’s record 138 scored in 2008, the laid-back young star said: “One or two shots I played for the blue. Maybe I could’ve held for the black…”
