Lloyd banks Friday night kitty
A 53 break by 13-year-old Mark Lloyd secured the lion’s share of the prize money in the second Friday night tournament run by the Academy lads at Stoke Snooker Club, Gosport.
Buoyed by the initial success, organisers Grant Black and Cameron Gillon, with the agreement of club-owner Dave Norman, will now run a weekly competition.
Gillon said: “We organised a small comp on a Friday evening for our Academy side. But it has now turned into a big tournament.”
And the teenager hopes to “progress the academy to a new level and give the younger ones a chance to win” by switching from a scratch to a handicap format.
James Budd accounted for Nathan Farmer in the final of the inaugural event. Lloyd defeated Black in the second.
“We only had seven entries in the first one,” added Gillon. “However, in the second tournament we had 13 entries with a massive £39 pot (shared between finalists and semi-finalists).”
Organisers are delighted that the tournaments have rekindled the interest of Matt Boudier, who competed on the Cuestars South of England Under-21 Bronze Tour last season.
Entry fee for the competitions, which are open to all ages, is £3.
