Copnor’s summer success

THREE Cuestars members are celebrating after their side won Division 1 of the Portsmouth Summer League.

Copnor A proved the old adage that a good team is greater than the sum of its parts.

Cuestars Seniors Tour players Scott Compton and Mark Tillison along with Steve Toms, one of the Section organisers at Copnor Snooker Club, helped the champions finish the season unbeaten in their 12 matches.

And they managed to fend off runners-up Craneswater A that included the 2015 Cuestars Seniors champion Mike Talmondt.

The format for the scratch league matches is six singles and three doubles frames all drawn out of a hat.

Toms, who remarkable only lost one frame all season, said: “We should be nowhere near winning this league with the players Craneswater have.

“But we have team spirit and go out every week to win and, above anything else, have a laugh with our mates.”
