English Ranking Series legs 2 & 3
ONLY Brad Chappell and Billy Castle managed to win matches in the latest two legs of the English Ranking Series at the South West Snooker Academy, Gloucester.
Chappell (Poole) beat Matthew Hudson (Darlington) 4-0 but went out in the last-32 4-0 to Callum Downing (Oldbury) in the second event.
There were first-round defeats for Sonnie O’Sullivan (Aylesbury) – 4-1 by Daniel Womersley (Leeds) – and Reece King (Poole) – 4-1 by Alan Tunney (Torquay).
After receiving a walkover in the last-64, Labeeb Ahmed (Chessington) went down 4-1 to Zack Richardson (Brighton).
Former Cuestars member Nick Jennings (Chandler’s Ford) picked up a handy £400 after losing 4-3 to ex-professional Darryn Walker (Wolverhampton) in the final. Jennings knocked out Billy Castle (Reading) by the same score in the last-four.
In the third leg, Chappell battled through two 4-3 matches, beating Shafaqut Hussain and losing to Tokki Yamaguchi (Eastbourne). Castle accounted for Peter Devlin (London) 4-0 and made a 110 break in the one frame he won in a 4-1 defeat by Downing.
Ronnie Blake (Coulsdon) was knocked out 4-1 by Stuart Watson (Alcester). Ahmed lost 4-1 to former Cuestars junior Adam Bobat (Fareham). King went out 4-1 to Josh Thomond (Manchester). And O’Sullivan was edged 4-3 by Peter Delaney (Eastbourne).
