Two big breaks in South Wilts league
NINE-time champion John Hunter has recorded the first century break of the 2015/16 Cuestars South Wilts Snooker League season.
The 49-year-old from Andover wrapped up a 4-1 victory over Simon ‘The Tornado’ Peacock with a 110 clearance at Salisbury Snooker Club.
Peacock had levelled the match at 1-1 with a run of 56 before his opponent surged ahead with efforts of 42 and 40.
Despite suffering his first defeat of the campaign, the fastest cueman in Winterbourne Gunner said: “It was a great match to be a part of and great to see John on top form.”
Hunter added: “We had a good game – but it didn’t take long.”
Elsewhere, Anthony Rice (Fordingbridge), the league’s highest-placed under-21 player, defeated Neil Carroll (Rownhams) 3-2.
The 18-year-old, who made a 75 in the third frame, said: “Neil played a solid match game that put me under pressure.
“I generally took the chances when they presented themselves but poor safety led to losing the frames I lost.”
Richard Swaffield tops the table by two points from Hunter and Carroll.
Neil Herd (Frome) has been forced to miss the rest of the season after breaking his collarbone in four places during a snowboarding holiday. We know that one was in Austria but it’s unclear where the other three happened. All his results have been removed from the league table.
