Castle beats old teammate Nash in Coulsdon
FORMER professional Billy Castle beat his old Monday night teammate Adam Nash in the final of the fourth leg of the Cuestars Championship Tour in south London.
The 30-year-old from Reading pocketed £180 in prize money after his 3-0 victory on one of the Star tables at Frames Sports Bar, Coulsdon.
Castle and Nash used to turn out together for Churchills, a club in Eastleigh, in the Southampton & District Social Clubs League.
Wayne Townsend (Northolt), who has won four of the previous five Cuestars tournaments he has entered this season, missed out on a sixth successive appearance in a final.
The rankings leader was beaten 3-2 from 2-0 up by Nash in the last-four.
Despite a whole host of heavy hitters making early exits, four century breaks were recorded during the event sponsored by Frames Sports Bar.
Castle fired in a 105 in his last-16 match and added a 115, missing the green for a possible 140 clearance, against Labeeb Ahmed (Chessington) in his semi-final victory.
Ronnie Blake (Sutton) made a 105 in his quarter-final defeat by Castle. And Terry Burke (Croydon) chalked up a 114 in the Plate competition.
Defending rankings champion Marcos Dayao (Battersea Park) beat Oliver Sykes (Chandler’s Ford) 2-0 in the Plate final.
