13-year-old’s England debut

THE normally unflappable Mickey Joyce admitted he was “shaking” on his international debut. Cuestars Gold Tour player Joyce (pictured) earned a call-up to the England Under-16 B side by finishing runner-up on the EASB Regional Junior Tour South.

The 13-year-old from Basingstoke won the last of his four matches at the Home Internationals in Leeds. He lost 3-0 to Sean Devenney (Republic of Ireland), 3-0 to Callum Matthews (Wales) and 2-1 to Robbie McGuigan (Northern Ireland) but finished with a 2-1 victory over Julien Leclercq (Belgium).“I was shaking,” said the teenager. “But by the last match, I was getting into it. And he added: “It was a good experience.”

England B ended the three-day event at the Northern Snooker Centre third out of the six teams. Wales won the title by two frames from England A.

Joyce is sponsored by Falcon Pools and The Academy, Basingstoke.
