Five (or six) have fun in Malta
FIVE Cuestars members enjoyed an awesome week at the World Snooker Federation Junior Open for under-18s in Malta.
Remarkably, they all qualified from the round-robin group stages for the knockout.
Cuestars director John Hunter described it as an “incredible achievement”.
Connor Benzey, Jamie Wilson and Mickey Joyce made last-32 exits. Aidan Murphy lost in the last-16 and 14-year-old Oliver Sykes won 350 euros (£298) for reaching the quarter-finals.
A total of 54 players from 20 countries competed in the event which was split between the Malta Snooker Academy, in Hamrun, and the live-streaming table in the San Antonio Hotel, in Saint Paul’s Bay in the north of the island.
The eventual winner received a two-year tour card for the professional circuit.
Sykes, Benzey and Wilson made the trip to the Mediterranean thanks to a sponsorship deal with Cuestars and Attic Life.
Steven Hughes, too old for the junior event, and Benzey are still in Malta competing in the WSF Open.
