“Alien invasion”” in Salisbury”
ALEX Thorn reckons his rearranged Cuestars South Wilts Snooker League match against Martin Hill exhibited signs of an “alien invasion”.
The Shrewton cueman salvaged the final two frames after trailing 3-0 to Hill (Durrington) at Salisbury Snooker Club.
“It was a struggle all round,” admitted Thorn.
“I felt like I was playing with somebody else’s arm – and cue – and Martin looked like he was suffering a similar alien invasion.
“After going 3-0 down I had to have a serious word with myself.”
Elsewhere, Gary Hart (Porton) crushed Steve Ashton (Salisbury) 5-0 to take over top spot with a game in hand.
“Gary played really well throughout,” said Ashton, who lost the fourth frame on the black and watched Hart fluke the green and the pink in the fifth.
“But I was always playing catch up.”
Hill climbed to second after securing a tight 3-2 win over Neil Carroll (Southampton) and defeating teenager Callum McDonald (Bishopdown) 5-0 with the help of a 50 in the second frame.
McDonald, 14, yet to win a frame in the league, matched his highest break of 24 in the fifth.
“He battled well throughout,” said Hill.
Richard Arnold (Salisbury) “found some fluency” after sharing the first two frames with Paul Burt (Britford) to take a 3-1 lead. Burt limited the damage by winning the fifth.
And it was a first win of the season for Carroll against Nick Bevan (Salisbury).
“At last!” declared the 48-year-old, who posted a run of 37 in the second frame of his 3-2 victory.
Results: Paul Burt 2 Richard Arnold 3, Steve Ashton 0 Gary Hart 5, Neil Carroll 3 Nick Bevan 2, Martin Hill 5 Callum McDonald 0, Neil Carroll 2 Martin Hill 3, Martin Hill 3 Alex Thorn 2.
Highest break: Richard Arnold 64.
