Billy Castle delights Salisbury youngsters
EXCITED young potters at Salisbury Snooker Club were given a tantalising glimpse of what the future may hold by rookie professional Billy Castle.
Castle popped into the club to take on boys and girls from the junior section in exhibition frames.
And he didn’t disappoint. The highlight of the morning was a 131 total clearance against nine-year-old Katie Stacey.
World Snooker community coach John Hunter, one of the organisers, said: “Most of the kids have only just been introduced to snooker so they were mesmerised by the speed and control Billy displayed.”
The junior section was re-launched at the start of the year and regularly attracts 14 boys and girls aged from seven to 13.
Thomas McEvoy, who currently tops the Junior League and needs just two more wins to clinch the Winter Trophy, has already passed the first three levels of the Cuestars Coaching Programme
Eddie Mason and Will Kempson are on Level 3 and Harry Anderson and Bradley Brewer are on Level 2.
Hunter, Mike Cannings and Antony Foxcroft run junior sessions from 10.30am-12.30pm every Saturday at a cost of just £2 each. Players receive coaching and compete in a league.
Those who reach the required standard are encouraged to join the Cuestars South of England Under-21 Bronze Tour and, when ready, enter regional and national competitions run by the English Association of Snooker and Billiards, the game’s national governing body.
Girls have the additional option of entering tournaments run by World Ladies Billiards and Snooker.
