Budd wins “best final ever”
FAREHAM teenager James Budd clinched a thrilling Champion of Champions final at Stoke Snooker Club, Gosport.
In fact, his opponent Cameron Gillon described it as the “best game I’ve ever been in”.
Budd (pictured left with Stoke SC owner Dave Norman) compiled a 35 break in the 3-1 victory but was quick to pay tribute to Gillon.
“Cameron played well even though I came out on top,” said the 16-year-old. “We were both potting very well.
“I think he will be near the top of the (Cuestars South of England Under-21 Silver Tour) rankings if he continues playing snooker.
“He even said it was the best final ever he has played in and the most nerve-wracking game he has ever played in.”
Budd – who was born in Chertsey, Surrey, and has been playing snooker for six years – was a beaten semi-finalist in last month’s Silver Tour first leg in Salisbury.
He hopes to continue this run of form in the second leg in Woking next Sunday.
“I’m feeling confident in myself and hopefully will improve my game even more.
