Comeback kids
SHREWTON cueman Alex Thorn reckons it was his best ever comeback in the Cuestars South Wilts Snooker League.
Trailing 2-0 to Stuart Dreyer at Salisbury Snooker Club, Thorn left his opponent needing snookers on the baulk colours in each of the next three frames.
“In comeback terms, it rates up there as far back as I can remember in this league,” declared the 37-year-old.
“I felt comfortable, in control and happy with my cueing.”
Dreyer (Salisbury) said: “After being 2-0 down, Alex played well and his game got progressively stronger.”
Meanwhile, Trevor Pittman (Salisbury) edged Paul Burt (Britford) 3-2, also from 2-0 down, after forcing a decider with a 40 break.
Neil Carroll (Rownhams) extended his lead at the top with a 3-2 victory over Gary Hart (Porton).
The frames went with serve until Hart “ran out of steam” in the fifth.
“We played on the match table – and I think IT won,” said Carroll.
Hart added: “He handled the match table better than I did and played decent safety throughout.”
Richard Arnold (Salisbury) climbed one place to fifth after beating Nick Bevan (Salisbury) 3-2.
Arnold, who cleared blue to black to take the first frame after Bevan went ‘in-off’, cued well to lead 3-0.
He said: “All credit to Nick, who stuck in there and brought respectability to the scoreline by winning the last two frames and earning two valuable league points.”
