Dreyer: I was a spectator
SALISBURY’S Stuart Dreyer admitted he was “a spectator most of the time” as John Hunter marched ominously towards a sixth Cuestars South Wilts Snooker League title.
The league leader from Andover compiled breaks of 54, 51, 46, 34 and 32 in a 5-0 whitewash at Salisbury Snooker Club.
“All the frames were quite open,” said Dreyer. “John didn’t miss too much. He just ran out of position a few times which stopped him from possibly making some sizable breaks.
“I was a spectator most of the time but thankfully I wasn’t charged an entrance fee!”
With one week left, Gary Hart (Porton) climbed to second spot after a 4-1 win against Steve Ashton (Salisbury).
Hart said: “I got quite a good run overall and was playing reasonably well too, apart from the fourth frame where Steve got the bit between his teeth and hardly missed a ball.”
Neil Carroll (Southampton) dropped one place to third after a 4-1 defeat by Paul Burt (Britford), who raced to a 4-0 lead with a brace of 32 breaks.
“It was the best I have seen Paul pot,” declared Carroll.
A 3-2 nip-and-tuck, tactical victory over Trevor Pittman (Salisbury) took Richard Arnold (Salisbury) up one place to fourth.
Pittman levelled at 1-1 with an excellent final and deciding black. But Arnold reasserted himself in the next two before his opponent took the fifth.
Results: Richard Arnold 3 Trevor Pittman 2, Neil Carroll 1 Paul Burt 4, Gary Hart 4 Steve Ashton 1, Stuart Dreyer 0 John Hunter 5.
