First win for Ashton
SHREWTON cueman Steve Ashton (pictured) has opened his winning account in the 2010/11 Cuestars South Wilts Snooker League.
The 47-year-old edged Salisbury’s Trevor Pittman 3-2 in a tight match at Salisbury Snooker Club.
The pair shared the opening two black-ball frames.
Despite Pittman compiling a 32 break in the fourth frame, Ashton pinched a 3-1 lead on the black.
Pittman said: “I had my chances and didn’t take them.”
Meanwhile, Richard Arnold, also from Salisbury, admitted he was “feeding of scraps” as he went down 3-2 to Paul Burt (Britford).
Arnold said: “It was a fair reflection of the match, with Paul playing far more consistently.”
League-leader John Hunter (Andover) knocked in a 41 break as he opened up a two-point gap over Burt after outscoring Jeremy Dawson (Gillingham, Dorset) 5-0.
Dawson said: “I played like I had never picked up a cue before in my life.”
