Hart’s delight
PORTON potter Gary Hart has replaced defending champion John Hunter at the top of the Cuestars South Wilts Snooker League.
Hart compiled a 31 break in his 4-1 victory over Neil Carroll (Southampton) at Salisbury Snooker Club.
Carroll said he was restricted to “b***** all”.
Elsewhere, two wins took Steve Ashton (Salisbury) up to second, level on points with the new leader.
There was nothing to shout about apart from a 31 break in the second frame of Ashton’s 5-0 success over 14-year-old Callum McDonald (Bishopdown).
And he edged a scrappy but tight game 3-2 against Alex Thorn (Shrewton).
“We were both struggling a bit,” said Thorn. “It was arduous – but closely arduous.”
Missed early chances cost Richard Arnold (Salisbury) in his 4-1 defeat by Nick Bevan (Salisbury), who admitted he rode his luck.
Arnold missed the back off its spot on a run of 28 in the first frame.
Potting a red from a snookered position helped Bevan take a 2-0 lead and he collected the win bonus with an 18 clearance after his opponent had rattled the blue. The last two frames were shared.
Results: Neil Carroll 1 Gary Hart 4, Steve Ashton 5 Callum McDonald 0, Alex Thorn 2 Steve Ashton 3, Nick Bevan 4 Richard Arnold 1.
Highest break: Richard Arnold 64.
