Hunter’s six of the best
ANDOVER cueman John Hunter has wrapped up his sixth Cuestars South Wilts Snooker League title.
The undefeated 46-year-old dropped just five of his 45 frames and was crowned champion with a game to spare.
In a crunch, top-of-the-table clash, Hunter compiled a 53 break as he edged second-placed Gary Hart (Porton) 3-2 at Salisbury Snooker Club.
Hart, who finished second to bottom last season, said: “I was of course pleased to nick two (frames) from him, the way he has been playing recently, particularly.”
Hunter added a 56 in a 5-0 whitewash of Nick Bevan (Salisbury).
Meanwhile, Steve Ashton (Salisbury) beat Stuart Dreyer (Salisbury) 3-2 to clinch third spot, one place higher than in 2010/11.
Ashton took a 2-0 lead with a run of 35. Dreyer pulled one back with a 30 and nicked the fifth after Ashton went ‘in-off’ the brown.
Mani Davani needs to at least record his first victory from his four games in hand to climb off the foot of the table.
The Salisbury takeaway shop owner said: “I love playing snooker. I might not be a very good player but I’ll always give my best.”
