New generation emerging at Salisbury SC
A NEW generation of young potters are cueing up to hone their skills in a re-launched junior section at Salisbury Snooker Club.
And rookie professional Billy Castle has agreed to come and meet the lads on February 17.
“They are very excited about this,” said World Snooker community coach John Hunter, who runs the two-hour Saturday morning sessions alongside Mike Cannings and Anthony Foxcroft.
Salisbury SC subsidies the section, which runs from 10.30am-12.30pm, so the weekly cost is only £2.
The youngsters play league matches against each other and work through the Cuestars Coaching Programme.
Club champion Hunter added: “The Salisbury section is back on track.
“We have room for a few more players. Some girl players would be good.”
Those who reach the required standard and are keen to progress their games are encouraged to compete on the Cuestars South of England Under-21 Bronze Tour.
Promotion from there would take them to the Silver and then the Gold Tour.
In parallel to Cuestars, players can compete in national junior championships and on the Regional Junior Tour South – both run by the national governing body, the English Association of Snooker & Billiards.
