O’Callaghan joins half-century club
SILVER Tour player David O’Callaghan has recorded his first half-century break.
The massive milestone was passed in the first-round of a Saturday night handicap competition at his home club, Greenbaize in Bournemouth.
The 16-year-old said making the 54 break to win the first frame “felt absolutely brilliant”.
But, as is quite common when personal bests are achieved, he lost the best-of-three-frame match.
“It felt absolutely brilliant to finally pass the 50 barrier after getting 30s and 40s for so long,” said O’Callaghan.
His previous highest was a 44 made at the Bronze Tour championship play-off on finals day in Swindon last May.
The teenager made his Cuestars debut at his home club in January, 2014, and won his first and only Bronze tournament in Salisbury (see picture) in October later that year. He is currently ninth on the Silver Tour rankings.
