Ryan’s day
LOOK at his face, just look at his face!
It may be 40 years since BBC football commentator Barry Davies uttered that immortal line after Francis Lee scored a screamer for Derby against Manchester City.
But how else could you sum up Ryan Compton’s broad smile?
The ten-year-old was pictured after landing his first monthly tournament win at the Cuestars Section at Copnor Snooker Club in Portsmouth.
And he beat his older brother in the final. Ouch!
In the round-robin group stages, Ryan saw off Jamie Wilson, Rio Smith and Chloe White.
After edging Bradley Wrench on the pink in the semi-final, he had to see off his 14-year-old brother Daniel for the trophy.
Describing the “tense” match, Steve Toms, one of the Section organisers, said: “Ryan was feeling the nerves as he had never got to a final (previously) and it was also against his older brother.
“But Ryan kept his nerve and won his first title. As you can see by the picture, he was over the moon.”
Toms added that dad, Scott, was “very proud” of his son, whose progression over the past months earned him the ‘Most Improved Player’ award at the Section presentation this year.
