Second title in nine days for ‘Warrior’ Cowdroy

BOURNEMOUTH teenager Bradley Cowdroy pocketed £100 after claiming his second tournament win in nine days.

The 15-year-old followed up the previous week’s success in an under-16 event in South London by retaining the Under-22 Summer Classic title on home tables at Greenbaize Snooker Club.

Dubbed a “warrior” after his performance in Coulsdon, Cowdroy said: “On paper, I’ve had a great summer so far.

“But the most pleasing thing for me has been instilling a constant will to win whenever I compete now, which I think I showed in the latter stages of the tournament.

“I guess the ‘Warrior’ nickname will have to stay!”

The Cuestars Under-21 Gold Tour player won his round-robin group and recovered from 2-1 down to edge past Londoner Adam Stacey in a “very cagey” last-four match.

He then defeated Connor Benzey (Eastleigh) 3-0 in the final to collect £80 prize money. And a 70 break in the third frame earned Cowdroy the day’s high-break prize of £20.

Oliver Sykes (Chandlers Ford) beat Jamie Wilson (Havant) in a six-reds tiebreak to progress from his group but went down 3-1 to Benzey in the semi-finals.

Arron Smith (Chichester) beat English Under-14 Champion Olly Gibbs (Gosport) in the plate final.
