Seniors Tour player wins £500

A CUESTARS Seniors and Masters Tours player has pocketed a whopping £500 for winning a six-month snooker competition.

Neil Carroll (pictured) claimed his second Open Series title at Chandlers Ford Snooker Club on Saturday.

The 59-year-old from Rownhams, the only ever-present player in Series 34, went into the 26th week with an unassailable lead.

Silver Tour player Caden Read finished runner-up and will collect £430. Ten of the 12 money winners are Cuestars members: £240 Ryan Spratt, £135 Ellise Scott, £105 Navraj Landa, £85 Asten Sahota, £70 O’Shay Scott, £60 Christopher Woodward, £55 Noah Gartell, £50 Steve Read.

A guaranteed £2,235 in prize money is up for grabs in the 35th Open Series which kicks off at 1pm next Saturday (July 13).

The format is a handicapped straight knockout with a Plate for those players losing their first match. Cost is £15 for club members. There is a guest fee for non-members. Handicaps are automatically adjusted weekly by a clever spreadsheet. No age limit. No pre-registration. No dress code. No miss rule.

Free practice tables are available, subject to customer bookings, until both finals end around 6pm.

And… the 12th running of the under-18 Rotary Summer Cup, with WPBSA coach Tim Dunkley, kicks off on Wednesday, July 24, and ends on Friday, August 30.

That’s 28 weekdays of green baize competition in the fully air-conditioned Chandlers Ford SC.

Daily cost is £9. Experienced players and complete beginners catered for. Hours are 11am-3pm. No pre-registration. Non-members welcome. Full-sized and junior cues can be provided.

As well as a small daily prize and trophies for the overall winner, runner-up and third place, there are five weekly trophies to play for.

Hours are 11am-3pm with free practice from 10.30am.
