Trigg: It was a struggle

SILVER Tour teenager Mike Trigg admitted it was a “struggle” regaining the Eastleigh & District Under-18 Premier League title.

And it was déjà vu for the luckless Mickey Joyce.
Trigg, from East Wellow, near Romsey, held a one-point lead over the nine-year-old going into the final week’s matches at Chandler’s Ford Snooker Club.
Things took a turn for the worst when the 16-year-old lost his first match on the final black to his young opponent from Basingstoke.
Trigg was then beaten by Liam Day (St Denys) and Joyce lost a black-ball game to Austen Petty (Boyatt Wood).
But seconds after Trigg sunk the final black against Petty, Day did the same against Joyce.
“It was probably the hardest (league) I’ve played in so far,” declared the relieved champion after snatching the trophy by virtue of frames won. “It was a struggle.”
Joyce returned to Bognor Regis to complete his family holiday having played six full frames of snooker across both the under-13 and under-18 leagues that were all decided on the final black.
He won two, lost four and was pipped at the post for both titles in what could be described as a character-building day.
