Trophy day at Waterlooville Sports Bar
ORGANISERS expressed their delight at the success of the Waterlooville Sports Bar Junior Snooker League at the first season’s presentation.
Many of the players received trophies for the first time in their lives, a treasured memory that will never leave them.
World Snooker coach Tim Dunkley, who runs the Wednesday evening sessions, said: “Suzy and Steve Wilson, the club owners, and I are delighted with what the lads have achieved since we launched the league last December.
“Not only has the standard of play improved but also their knowledge of the etiquette and the rules.
“We hope to progress some of them to the Cuestars South of England Under-21 Bronze Tour next season.
“And the lads have been given the challenge of pushing Waterlooville Sports Bar, which finished 22nd in the club rankings this season, into the top ten.”
In a bid to increase the standard even further, the club has sponsored one-hour coaching sessions with Dunkley for five players.
Meanwhile, league leader Samuel Laxton extended his unbeaten start to the second season to 12 matches.
But save for a failed snooker escape and a free ball, defending champion Lewis Wilson looked favourite to end the remarkable run.
Harry Wilson moved up to third after winning the second group.
Dunkley runs sessions for under-19s from 4.30-6.30pm every Wednesday.
