Zak Truscott claims first title

ZAK Truscott is the first champion of the Monday Junior Snooker League at Waterlooville Sports Bar.

It is the Cuestars Bronze Tour player’s first snooker title.

The 14-year-old, sponsored by Lead Generation Services, finished the 20-week season four points clear of Jamie Wilson.

But it would all have been different if Truscott had lost to Lewis Wilson and if Jamie Wilson, conceding a 40-point start to all of his opponents, had beaten Owen Jenkins in the final two matches.

Jenkins, the only ever-present player this season, continues to impress.

The nine-year-old topped the seven-man round-robin group in the final week and finished fourth in the table. Lewis Wilson took third place on frames won.

Truscott, who also turns out for the Hampshire pool youth team, started playing snooker seriously just over a year ago.

He made his Bronze Tour debut on home tables last September and has played in six events in total. He has qualified for the knockout three times and made the semi-finals once, in Coulsdon.

Currently sixth in the rankings, Truscott recently signed a £1,000 sponsorship deal with Portsmouth-based Lead Generation Services.

A new 20-week league starts next Monday (February 26).
