Karl on a roll

THAT’S now three wins out of four for west Londoner Karl Townsend on the midweek snooker circuit for players aged 55 or over.

He pocketed £80 in prize money after beating Phil Butler (Bournemouth) 2-0 in the final of the penultimate leg of the Cuestars Masters Tour.

Townsend (Northolt), who also tasted success in Newbury and Woking, didn’t drop a single frame out of 14 in the SnookerHub-sponsored event at Chandlers Ford Snooker Club.

Butler had laid some devilish snookers to squeeze past Colin Norton (Gosport) 2-1 in the last-four.

Townsend knocked our rankings leader John Hunter (Andover) 2-0 in the second semi.

Kevin Morris (Esher) made his highest Cuestars break of 39 and reached the quarter-finals for the first time.

Reigning champion Hunter leads the table from Norton. Neil Carroll (Southampton) is third. Townsend climbed to eighth. Masters rankings include points earned by over-55 players on the Cuestars Seniors Tour.

The Crucible Sports & Social Club, Newbury, hosts the eighth and final leg on eight on Wednesday, May 17.
