Dan makes first RJT semi-final
DAN Sykes (pictured) continued his season to remember by making a first ever appearance in the semi-finals on the EASB Regional Junior Tour South.
The 17-year-old from Chandler’s Ford was eventually beaten 2-1 by runaway rankings leader Reggie Edwards (Norwich) in the fifth leg at Woking Snooker Centre.
“It was a close game until the last frame which he dominated,” said Sykes. “It was a decent day.”
Unfortunately, Sykes was drawn in the same round-robin group as his ten-year-old brother Oliver. And the siblings met in their final match to decide the second qualification spot with the teenager prevailing 3-0.
The two left-handers had both beaten Jonny Mutch (Cambridge) 2-1 and had both lost 2-1 to fourth-placed Jordan Vincent (Essex).
Sykes then accounted for Mickey Joyce (Basingstoke) 2-0 in the last-eight.
The sixth and final leg will be on home tables at Chandler’s Ford Snooker Club on June 12.
Sykes turns out for Chandlers Ford Central Club B in the Southampton & District Social Clubs League. The team won the Premier League this season and promotion to the Super League.
He won his first Cuestars tournament in Fareham in March and finished sixth on the Gold Tour. And he reached the last-16 of the English Under-18 Championship.
