Hat-trick of tons for wonderkid Shane
WONDERKID Shane Castle has compiled three centuries in one day for the first time.
The 14-year-old from Marchwood stamped his authority on the EASB Under-16 Championship qualifier at Frames Sports Bar, Coulsdon, London.
Defending champion Castle booked a last-16 place for the fourth season running and now faces a trip to Leeds next May.
“I didn’t play too badly,” admitted the teenager, who recently had a four-hour session with Terry Griffiths, the 1979 World Champion, who is resident coach at On Q Promotions, Castle’s player management company.
“He said there’s nothing wrong with (my technique). It was safety that he was working on. It was good.
“If I do get on the Main Tour early, he’ll work with me a lot.”
Castle took his tally of tons to 32 with a 114 against Harry Green (Harlow) and 129 and 100, sandwiching a 54, against Danny Ould (Sandown, IoW).
Castle’s results: 3-0 Joseph Taylor (London), 3-0 Michael Loveridge-Greene (Gillingham), 3-1 Harry Green (Harlow), 3-0 Billy O’Connor (Dagenham), 3-0 Danny Ould (Sandown).
