Hughes heads Gold Tour’s three-ball wizards
FIVE members of the Cuestars South of England Under-21 Gold Tour turned their hands to the three-ball game and fared better than many had predicted in their first tournament.
Steven Hughes lost to the pre-tournament favourite in the final of the second leg of the EASB Junior Billiards Tour at Chandlers Ford Snooker Club.
Hughes edged Jamie Wilson (Havant) 198-191 in the 45-minute semi-final.
The 16-year-old from Chandler’s Ford did the damage with a personal best 37 break with four minutes remaining.
But he was out-classed 281-145 in the final by 19-year-old Aran Hetherington (Hartlepool).
Hughes, sponsored by Quickdraw Supplies, had finished second in his round-robin group on points difference from Ryan Hughes (Chandler’s Ford) and Anthony Rice (Fordingbridge).
Hetherington had knocked out 11-year-old Oliver Sykes (Chandler’s Ford) 206-90 in the second semi.
Ryan Hughes beat Jamie Hetherington (Hartlepool) 50-49 in the Plate final.
