Q School 2018 details
ENTRIES are now being taken for World Snooker’s revamped Q School.
But a few things have changed. They have gone back to having three tournaments instead of two and the price has increased from £600 to £1,000.
And playing at Q School is the only way of getting on to the brand new Challenge Tour.
The three knockout tournaments run consecutively from May 14 at the Meadowside Leisure Centre in Burton upon Trent. The closing date is March 28.
All players must be members of and in good standing with their national governing body, eg, the EASB, at the time of entering and competing in the Q School. There is no age restriction but World Snooker reserves the right to refuse entry to under-16s and it insists on written permission from parents or guardians of under-18s.
The four semi-finalists from each event earn two-year pro-cards.
In addition, for those players not reaching any of the semi-finals, a rankings list will be produced with one point awarded for every frame won at Q School.
During the 2018/2019 season, should the number of entries in any World Snooker Tour event fall below the required number of entrants, subject to commercial agreements, the highest ranked players from the Q School ranking list will be used to top up the required number of entrants.
And the top-64 players from the 2018 Q School ranking list will be eligible to join the new Challenge Tour, which consists of ten tournaments each carrying £10,000 of prize money. The entry fee for each event is £50.
Last season, our very own Billy Castle (pictured) earned a free Q School place – sponsored by Dafasnooker – by winning the Cuestars South of England Championship Tour. He won six matches to make the semis and is now travelling the world as a professional snooker player, rubbing shoulders with the likes of Ronnie O’Sullivan and Neil Robertson.
