Debutant Bunyard claims Seniors success in Fareham

SURREY cueist Paul Bunyard pocketed £150 in prize money after a winning debut on the Cuestars Seniors (40+) Tour

The 44-year-old from Ash didn’t drop a frame in the knockout stage of the opening leg at Fareham Snooker Club.

Bunyard, who finished runner-up in his round-robin group, defeated Carl Davies 2-0 in the final.

The Dranfields-sponsored tournament attracted a 32-strong field.

All eight round-robin groups had an undefeated winner. Justin Eggins (Chichester), Davies (Bournemouth), Paul Davis (Wareham), Darren Johnson (Petersfield), Jason Pusser (Bournemouth), Neil Jefferis (East Malling, Kent), Phil Butler (Bournemouth) and Paul Morrison (Ashford) progressed to the last-16 knockout with three wins from three.

Lun Lee (Orpington) compiled the day’s highest break of 87 in the second frame of his 2-1 semi-final defeat by Davies.

Eggins, whose only previous last-four appearance was also in Fareham last year, was denied a first final by Bunyard.

Organisers thanked the staff and management at Fareham SC for looking after everyone so well – as per usual.

Woking Snooker Centre hosts the second leg of nine on Sunday, October 22.
