Ally on the up

ALDERHOLT teenager Ally Pollard vowed to “push on and try to get another” after breaking his duck in the Cuestars South Wilts Snooker League.

Following two 5-0 defeats in his debut season, Pollard (pictured left) won his first frame 12 days before his 17th birthday.

Trailing Paul Burt (Britford) 1-0 at Salisbury Snooker Club, Pollard admitted he “fluked a few balls” and sunk an “ambitious double” to clinch the second frame.

“I was relieved because he was putting in good safeties that put me under pressure,” he said after the 4-1 defeat.

“I’ve seen him in practice and he seemed like a good player so I was surprised to get a frame. Now I’ve won a frame I must push on and try to get another.”

Meanwhile, Richard Arnold (Salisbury) said his 3-2 defeat by Steve Ashton (Salisbury) was a “fairly scrappy affair” and added: “There were no breaks to speak of.

“In fact, had it been a cricket match, ‘extras’ would probably have top scored.”

James Bolton (Amesbury) knocked in a 50 break in the third frame of a 4-1 victory over Callum McDonald (Bishopdown). The 19-year-old is favourite to land the trophy for the highest placed under-21 player.

Defending champion John Hunter (Andover) climbed to third after a 4-1 win against Martin Hill (Durrington).

And league leader Adam Guyatt (Salisbury) subjected Kaine Petty (Fordingbridge) to his third straight 5-0 whitewash.

Earlier, Petty had come within a whisker of claiming his first frame in a re-arranged game against second-placed Ashton.

The 15-year-old replied to his opponent’s run of 31 in the first frame with a 25 in the next. However, leading by 30 points, he missed one of the remaining two reds and Ashton cleared the table in two visits.
