Hunter hails “best” South Wilts match
JOHN Hunter declared his 3-2 victory over title-rival Jake Stewart as “by far the best” Cuestars South Wilts Snooker League match he’s ever been involved in.
The clash of the top two at Salisbury Snooker Club produced breaks of more than 40 in all five frames.
Defending champion Stewart took a 2-0 lead with runs of 52 and 46. Hunter replied with 53 and 77 – and then made a 61 from a fluked red in the decider.
Hunter, who has claimed the title a record 12 times, said: “It was by far the best South Wilts match I’ve been in.”
Mark Ridout climbed two places to sixth thanks to a 4-1 victory over Stuart Dreyer.
Dreyer said: “My game was below par but all credit to Mark who kept the pressure on and deserved his win.”
And Paul Burt also moved up two places, to fifth, after beating Lee Stagg 4-1.
