King John the VIII?
ANY win in his final match will guarantee John Hunter his eighth Cuestars South Wilts Snooker League title.
The Andover cueman was described as “imperious” by his opponent Richard Arnold after a 5-0 whitewash that included a 52 break at Salisbury Snooker Club.
“I really seldom had a pot to look at,” declared Arnold.
“John froze me out of the game and when chances presented themselves he took every one of them. He was dominant throughout.”
Regardless of what second-placed Adam Guyatt achieves in his last two games, Hunter will retain the title if he sees off Paul Burt on April 10.
Meanwhile, 15-year-old Callum McDonald (Bishopdown) picked up his first league win thanks to a 3-2 victory over Ally Pollard (Alderholt, near Fordingbridge).
“It was a really close and mostly scrappy match,” said Pollard, 17. “It could have gone either way. All of the frames were on the blue, pink or black.”
And third-placed Steve Ashton (Salisbury) let slip a 2-0 lead to Martin Hill (Durrington), who levelled the match with a run of 39 and took the decider.
